La frazo estus pli komprenebla se oni dirus:
Li, estante malsana, restis ....
aŭ se oni volas lasi "estante" subkomprenata, metu komon:
Li,malsana, restis ....
Mi ne audacas diri, ke la nuna frazo estas erara, sed mi ne povas elpensi ekzemplon kie a-vorto priskribas pronomon sen iu formo de "esti".

Mi memoras, ke kiel komencanto ankaŭ mi miris pri frazoj, en kiuj adjektivo ŝajnis rekte difini pronomon.
Jen ekzemplo el Fundamenta krestomatio: "Malsata li iris al la juĝisto ..."

Mi ŝanĝos la vortordon. Tiel la frazo ankoraŭ pli bone similos la frazon el Fundamenta Krestomatio.
