Estas iom da konfuzo. La germana "Amerikaner" estas substantivo, do "usonano"; la franca "étasunien" estas adjektivo (minuskla é), do "usona"; la portugala "americano" povas esti kaj kaj.

Ĉu vere ni devas esti tiel precizaj, kaj ligi/malligi ĉion? La senco ja estas la sama.

Ne evidentas, ke la franca "étasunien" rolas ĉi tie adjektive. Kiam mi diras "je suis Français", tio signifas "je suis un Français", ĉar en tiuj kazoj, oni neniam uzas la nedifitivan artikolon.
La manko de majusklo povas esti simple eraro. Aŭ ĉar la vorto "étasunien" estas iel novisma, la kutimo uzi majusklon ne estas jam fiksita.
Laŭ mia franca orelo, la frazo "il est étasunien" vere sonas kiel "il est Etasunien".
Koncerne ligi/malligi, tio ne estas la temo de mia komento.

Oni ĉiam devas rigardi la sinsekvon de la tradukoj:

Fernando tradukis el la portugala kaj laŭ mia kompreno la portugala "americano" povas esti kaj adjektivo kaj substantivo. Oni do povus _aldoni_ la frazon "Tiu studento estas usonano" paralele al "Tiu studento estas usona" sed laŭ mi aŭ ne rajtas forigi ĝin. Ĉu?
