what do you say of the English translation ? To me, "Lasst uns..." does not equate "Let's..." which is more like "lassen wir", oder ?

My opinion is close to worthless here as my German is terrible, but I've seen "lasst uns" taught/translated as "let's".

Also, isn't this very similar to on/nous in French, where you can safely interchange the two almost everywhere?

"let's" (let us) = "lass uns", "lasst uns"
"lassen wir" = "let we"

The sentence is quite right for me. The sense is the same.
