By "amusements," I believe the possibly British sentence author means what are called in America and Canada as "amusement rides" — ferris wheels, carousels, teacup rides, bumper cars, roller coasters, etc.

I don't think this one is bad. "Amusements" is a proper British word.

I believe American English speakers could not know some British words and vice versa.
