This seems a very awkward way to say a simple thing. I suggest changing it to "Several passengers on the train were injured in the accident." I'd only order the first part like that if I was going to make a point about the train.
Thoughts?

That's not what the Japanese says, though.

The meaning of the Japanese is
"There were a few passengers in the train and they were injured in the accident."

It is a rather unusual statement (although not impossible).

I've altered the Japanese sentence to, hopefully, be more plausible. Also added Swift's suggestion as a new English translation.
