There's no full stop yet.

aboubasha aboubasha August 30, 2016 August 30, 2016 at 12:42:23 PM UTC link Permalink

i didn't get your point, is a suggestion or what?

Here in Tatoeba we are trying to stick to the rules of punctuation, so maaster meant نقطة النهاية

aboubasha aboubasha August 30, 2016 August 30, 2016 at 2:46:33 PM UTC link Permalink

I got your point now. So the rule is (if i added a full stop to an English sentence and I need to translate into Arabic; so I have to add full stop in Arabic too)?

Or the rule is not to use the full stop if it's not needed?

We should use final punctuation everywhere as long as it doesn't go against the rules of particular language.

We write here sentences and as I know there's still final punctuation at the end of sentences.
(Tatoeba is a collectiion of sentences.) Good job!

What is the sentence supposed to mean?

Original: The project details were not clear yet in the last two months.

Do you mean this?
(1) For the last two months, the details of the project have not been clear.

Or this?
(2) Even in the last two months, the details of the project have not been made clear.

aboubasha aboubasha August 31, 2016 August 31, 2016 at 2:45:55 AM UTC link Permalink

I think i mean (1).

For (1), I think you meant that we have the full project specs, but we started working on the project using a methodology like agile methodology which tells that, you don't have to be fully aware of the project details when you start your first few sprints, because agile is about delivering quick features every short period, so your client gives judge and evaluation to your work. And some clients update the requirements after the first few sprints.

And for (2). I think you meant that we started working on something that we don't have full awareness of, maybe we were waiting for someone to show to us the full project details. After that we should have the full details.

Correct me please. I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm very curious to be.

Your understanding is correct. Please change the text to match my wording for (1).

aboubasha aboubasha September 2, 2016 September 2, 2016 at 12:12:35 PM UTC link Permalink

@AlanF_US how about this?

(1) The details of the project have not been clear for the last two months.
and
(2) The details of the project have not been clear in the last two months.

what's the difference between for, and in if used like that?

AlanF_US AlanF_US September 2, 2016 September 2, 2016 at 3:12:21 PM UTC link Permalink

Your (1), which is a rearrangement of my (1), is fine.
Your (2) is ambiguous and would be avoided by a careful native speaker or writer.

Typically, a time range expression that begins with "in" is used to express one or more events or processes that happened within that time:

"In the last two months, we have manufactured 2000 cars."
"In the last year, I have traveled to the moon, grown six feet taller, and invented a cure for cancer."

By contrast, a time range expression that begins with "for" expresses something that has been consistently true over the course of that time:

"For the last two months, we have been busy."
