Yes, "use" should be "used".

In fact, I wrote this phrase to show that the catalan phrase "sóc prim però estic gras" is not easy to translate to English.

"I used to be thin but now I'm fat" would be, in catalan "Era prim, però ara estic gras", which is not the same as "Sóc prim però estic gras".

Nevertheless, in English it should be "I used to be thin" - otherwise it's not English (or it's a totally different expression, which probably doesn't exist in English...).

Then, the solution is to correct the English phrase and cut the link to the catalan and spanish translations. I don't know how to break this link.

One way to translate it, maybe, would be: "I am a thin person, but at the moment I am fat." Or maybe: "I am normally thin, but right now I am fat."
