I never heard of "dry beer" only of "dry wine".

The Japanese speak of dry beer. I'll see if I can figure out what that means...

Seems like it refers to beers originally brewed in Japan for higher alcohol content, giving it a dryer taste as the sugars ferment.[1]

Apparently, this has made inroads into other markets as well.[2]

"This is a dry beer" /may/ be a more fitting translation. I'll add the appropriate tags.
