Probably - although If I Recall Correctly qahwa was not keen on a similar use of [pronoun]のです elsewhere. (Maybe I don't recall correctly, though ;-)

「弟のです」が「It belongs to my brother」の和訳としていいかどうかと言う質問ですが、どこかで似たような例があったような気がします。記憶がかなりあいまいですけど、そのときqahwaさんが何かの指摘をしてくれたと思います。（気のせいかもしれません)

ちなみに、例の風邪は６週間も続いていました。(汗

以前に指摘をしたかどうかは私も覚えていませんが（探すのも面倒で、すみません(^_^;)）、英文に対する和訳としての判断は私にはできないので、もしも以前に何かコメントしたとしたら、的外れな事を言ったかもしれません。(^_^;)

（ポールさん、風邪引いたら一段と日本語に磨きが掛かりましたね。^^）
