I do not understand why in English Gulliver's Travels is singular with "Gulliver's Travels WAS WRITTEN" and in French it is plural with "Les Voyages de Gulliver FURENT ÉCRITS". It seems it should be singular in French as well.
In English you can consider it to be an elyptical sentence:" [The book] Gulliver's Travels, WAS....
In French they make it agree with "voyages".
Not all languages function the same indeed, for we wouldn't need Tatoeba...
