    shouldn't this be "j'ai été"?
  2. Dec 16th 2010, 00:51
I believe you are right and I was wrong. But I'm not sure about the difference between "J'ai été" and "Je suis rentré".
  3. Dec 16th 2010, 00:55
I thought that "avoir" doesn't go with "être" and with various verbs of motion or direction.

    For instance, you say:
Je suis rentré à la maison
rather than: J'ai rentré à la maison.

After re-checking, I found out that it's "j'ai été" - but I'm still not sure about the other forms which go with verbe être in the past.
