Das finde ich nun allerdings eine gar freie Übersetzung. Von "diesen" Umständen ist nicht die Rede, sondern nur von Umständen allgemein. Auch das Wort "natürlich" kommt im Ausgangssatz nicht vor, dafür ist die Uni untergegangen. Die leicht saloppe Wendung "der Plan war natürlich vorbei" passt meiner Meinung nach stilistisch überhaupt nicht. Natürlich soll man nicht immer wörtlich übersetzen, doch man kann es auch übertreiben.
