I find the apparent discrepancy between "nicht so viel" and "much less" quaint. What do you think?

„Wenn ich gewusst hätte, dass die Prüfung so leicht wäre, hätte ich weit weniger gelernt“ wäre eine etwas wörtlichere Möglichkeit. Aber wenn Patrick seine Übersetzung hinzufügt, könnten wir den anderen englischen Satz einfach abtrennen.

BTW Using the negative of the opposite is quite common, at least in translations between English and French.
