This and your other sentence are fine, but I think they're a bit more complicated than they need to be. I believe that conversion should only be used for emphasis, passive-like things, and when the x1 is zo'e. Using it just so you can put "ma" at the beginning seems to be an influence from English.

Again, this is correct, but requiring the listener to do complex place shuffling seems unnecessary. I expect that a lot of people have to stop and think about the English definition when they see something like this (which is something that should probably be avoided, if Lojban is ever to be used without English as a crutch).

You're right, of course. I only added these two sentences to document the usage of velkla and xelkla, which had so far not been much seen on Tatoeba. Other (maybe more normal) possibilities:

do klama ti fo ma
do klama ti fu ma
do klama ti ta'i ma / ta'i ma do klama ti

I had already added the first two possibilities. ;-)

In general I don't like the last two so much, because it kind of feels like saying something like "jufra bau lo glico" when it's already there in the place structure. But I suppose it could could be used for some sort of distinction, e.g. "klama fu lo xarnu xirma ta'i lo nu ctigau ri lo kukte".
