I guess this sentence has one of those annotations that don't belong in Tatoeba.

I'm just not sure whether this should be 完ぺきな腕まえにする, or 完ぺきにする

4 years after that question, I'm dropping the quite unnecessary "な腕まえ". Only the English sentence is directly linked so it shouldn't be a problem.

I did notice that. Newspapers used to prefer 完ぺき because 璧 is not that common a kanji (I think it was added to the 常用漢字 later.) The arrival of IMEs has made 完璧 more common. These are the counts in the 2007 Google Japanese n-grams:
完璧 4483094
完ぺき 104041
完壁 10348
Of the 41 Tanaka/Tatoeba sentences using the term, 38 use 完璧 and 3 use 完ぺき.
