It took me a while to understand why 'ihn' is correct here and the structure of the sentence, because I am a German beginner :) In German 'der Berg' is 'the mountain'. It is masculine, not neuter, 'es gibt' means idiomatically 'there is', 'ihn' means 'it' or 'him' (object or "accusative"; 'it' subject or "nominative" is 'es' for neuter nouns, 'he' subject is 'er'; 'she' subject is 'sie').
The German sentence is, making a parallel in wrong English: 'because it(subject) it(object) gives'. In German you choose the pronoun according to the gender of the noun, which you must know and can be masculine or feminine rather than neuter even for some 'things'! And 'it gives' actually means 'there is', but also 'it is'.
