「天は自ら助くるものを助く」は、日本初の英書の完訳である中村正直『西国立志編』（1871年、原書は Samuel Smiles, Self-Help）第1編の冒頭にある言葉です。
「助くる」「助く」はそれぞれ文語の連体形・終止形で、口語ではともに「助ける」になります。
現代では「もの」は漢字で表記する方が適当だと考え、例文では「者」にしました。

原文の表記は以下の通りです。（でもあまり忠実に再現できませんので http://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/1080981/28 をご覧ください。）

天ハ自ラ助クルモノヲ助クト云ヘル諺ハ、確然経験シタル格言ナリ、僅ニ一句ノ中ニ、歴（アマネ）ク人事成敗ノ実験ヲ包蔵セリ、
("Heaven helps those who help themselves" is a well-tried maxim, embodying in a small compass the results of vast human experience.)

本文の左に、確然（シカト）、経験（タメシコヽロミ）、実験（タメシ）、包蔵（コメテアル）とカタカナで書いてあるのは、振り仮名ではなくて、漢語の意味を分かりやすい和語で説明したものです。
なお、この頃はまだ「、」と「。」の区別がありませんでした。句点によって区切られた「文」という概念は、もう少し後に輸入され定着するものです。
