用法的には間違っていないようですし、検索してみたところ「言う」と「いう」どちらの表記も同じような数だけ使われていました。

私が書くならどっちだろうと思ったのですが、正直どちらの表記にするか、それほどこだわりはありません。多分「いう」を使う気はするのですが、「言う」で変換されてしまったらそのままスルーして使っちゃうかも。

どこで検索されましたか？グーグルのフレーズ検索の件数は当てになりませんので、NAVER や Bing をお試しください。

ぼく自身はここでは「いう」である“べき”だと思っています。

検索したのはグーグルです。Bingでやってみたらグーグルよりは差が出てますね。「いう」の方が一般的なのですね。

新聞や本などで誰かが言葉を発する「言う」とこうした「いう」を区別するのはルールとしてわかりますが、まだ世間一般に浸透しているルールではないような気がします。ですが、「いう」の方が誤解を招かない書き方であるのは理解できますので、今後は私もそちらで統一していきたいと思います。
