No, "sumergió" aquí está perfectamente bien. Tengo la sensación de que la frase decía "sumergió la cabeza bajo el ALA", lo cual no me sonaba nada bien pero debe haber sido error mío. Disculpas.

He añadido otra frase con "metió" como sugeriste. No obstante la tuya es más clara y precisa. Saludos. :)
