(For Japanese learners)
猟鳥 (りょうちょう) is a casual expression of 狩猟鳥 (しゅりょうちょう). 狩猟鳥 is a legal term defined by 鳥獣の保護及び管理並びに狩猟の適正化に関する法律 (or 鳥獣保護法 in short; game birds and animals protection act in Japan).

The Wild Bird Society of Japan (日本野鳥の会), the largest non-profit organization for birds lovers, also uses the term 狩猟鳥.

I note that the major Japanese-English dictionaries all have entries for 猟鳥. The big Kenkyusha also has 狩猟鳥, but simply cross-references to the 猟鳥 entry. I also checked a collection of 国語辞典 (広辞苑, 大辞林, etc.). All have entries for 猟鳥 but not for 狩猟鳥, although they include the broader term 狩猟鳥獣.
Dictionaries are, of course, not indicators of how often things are used. The Google Japanese n-grams have 4 times as many occurrences of 狩猟鳥 than for 猟鳥.
