As the French user sacredceltic lodged a complaint against me for a sentence that I published a few days ago, on allegations of "xenophobia and provocation" through sending a message to a TatoebaPeaceKeeper. There are now community rules that are laid down, and they apply to all without distinction, so it appeared to be a good thing that I apologize.

With this sentence, I meant no offense towards the French people as a whole or individually, and I really am sorry if they felt offended by the content, or the turn of the sentence in itself. I also feel sorry that they didn't get the very meaning of it, which was and is about the very way French people are being caricatured outside France - when they are, and of course was not that the French people are inherently so in their nature. This is an important point to me concerning what I wanted to convey through that one phrase.

On the allegations of xenophobia, I would like to say that I am French, for one, and as such I hold this sentence as more self-deprecative and cynical rather than a xenophobic insult against my peers, as some would purposely cast it; although it is apparently making me a French person xenophobic against other French people, go figure.

I'm not about trying to find x people who do not feel offended - not that they do not exist, it would merely be a waste of time. So my sincere apologies go to sacredceltic, sysko (and Trang?) for they felt offended as French citizens.

I would like to apologize to the Tatoeban community as well for the poisonous atmosphere that some people are willing to cultivate and for the controversy which my sentence obviously stirred up. Now that I have said that, I still hope that people are grown-up enough so they can discuss things up rather than systematically and childishly groaning to the peacekeepers in a contrived way.

peace, U2FS

You made some points, especially regarding that of splitting up the Wall along segmented topics, which I believe to be a different matter though (sorta). But still your 'warming up' is most appreciated.

Hey Swift, I'll try to sell my case...

Well, a guestbook could bring it some more to Tatoeba than just a nickname and a comm left on the Wall, say, [name, age, place, country, mail address, website+ post] allowing people to leave more personal msgs, enabling unregistered visitors to have a little say as well, like I WAS HERE! Doesn't have to be posh either.

Personally, were I to make a post like this out of the blue, I'd it find not too "hot" to have it published between one dealing with the architecture of the system, another one reporting potentially mischievous behaviour, or eventually one about updating [I have got no grievances at all for these being discussed on the Wall, that's not my point :)] It just seemed to me that we could bring up a dedicated space that would be, in a sense, more friendly-wise? I'm aware that there are currently more relevant priorities, but since Tatoeba is aimed at sharing and promoting communication, why not leaving messages for posterity? ;)

eng > There could be a guest book? (or golden book, not sure how english ppl call it) so contributors, users or just guests could sign it (in any language), share their experience of Tatoeba, thank the hands who made the project come true etc. in a different approach to that of the Wall, since the wall is among others designed to enable discussing features, options and updating news and all that jazz.

fra > Il pourrait y avoir un livre d'or?

awesome job so far. just wondering, is there a way one could know which duplicates sentences he/she owned ?

¡Hola!

I have a question and a request. I apologize if these already are answered/addressed issues.

When I browse onto the index page (all contributions shown, links included) and choose a specific language, let's say afrikaans, I can't reach page 2 of afrikaans contributions only. The link redirects me onto the second page with all languages. May this be changed ?

I can't read the full shanghainese IPA transliteration since it isn't 'slacked' any longer. Any possibility for a change ? thank you. :)

Yeah we all already know that you're an oldie and that anyone else below the age of 45 just can't put two words together. Now come on, prove us how broad your knowledge is!

U2FS U2FS April 16, 2011 April 16, 2011 at 11:21:26 PM UTC link Permalink

I said "Rules and usage are equally important." Read it twice.
Now you may want to prove your statement ? You seem to know a lot more about Chinese language as a whole than I do... ?

U2FS U2FS April 16, 2011 April 16, 2011 at 10:28:02 PM UTC link Permalink

Cool. Yet what you just said about Chinese language is bullsh*t, it needed to be corrected.
