IMO this is a problem, using the British flag gives a clear indication that a British English standard is being used. I think a distinction would be a very helpful addition for learners all over the world who are left scratching their heads and wondering if something they've always used is wrong, or if their teacher is in fact an idiot. Thanks all for the welcome, I think this site is absolutely fantastic.

Hello everybody. I'm a 28 year old Brit living in Poland and working as an English teacher / proofreader and occasional translator!
I found this website the other day and think it can be a brilliant resource for my more advanced students who often find words and understand them but are unsure how exactly to use them.
I have one major question - I note that the English contributions are given a Union Jack, British flag. Does this indicate that British English is considered standard here? I've been caught out already two times correcting sentences then realising they were simply using the USA variants.
I suppose to avoid this confusion is it possible that a USA flag could be added for those wishing to use their language (which is only fair)?
Trzymajcie się! :)
