Hey, developers!

I'm writing to invite you to join the newly reorganized Tatoeba development team. Over the past few years, as Trang and sysko found themselves burdened with commitments outside Tatoeba, the pace of development (including maintenance) slowed down. But in the past few months, we've been putting things back on a solid footing as we've figured out how to share our work and our knowledge. Trang and sysko have given me their blessing to coordinate between them, the developers, and the Tatoeba users. In the meantime, various people have been expanding documentation and developing a nice new virtual machine that runs on all platforms (thanks, pep and lool0!), so development is much easier to do.

I'm putting this out as a Wall post and also sending it via PM on Tatoeba, but I'm hoping that we can communicate from now on through our Google Group (which is also a mailing list):

https://groups.google.com/forum...tatoebaproject

so please join that group (as some of you already have) if you're interested in participating in development. Joining the group does not commit you to any tasks, but it helps us take advantage of your collective wisdom. :) We will also continue to use our #tatoeba channel on IRC for immediate discussion.

Development at Tatoeba touches the following areas:

(1) the Linux server on which the site runs
(2) the main PHP codebase that controls most of the site functionality (under Trang's direction; repository on Assembla)
(3) the C++ codebase that controls the wiki (under sysko's direction; repository on GitHub)
(4) the UI translations (repository on Launchpad)
(5) userscripts, bookmarklets, and other auxiliary tools

Feel free, but not compelled, to tell me (publicly or privately) anything about the work you've already done at Tatoeba, the work you'd prefer to do going forwards, and so on. Also, if you know people who might want to join us, please encourage them to do so.

I look forward to hearing from you!
