# Sentences new design
We've redesigned a bit the sentences.
The initial goal was to make the texts non-clickable, in order to ease the process of copy-pasting a part of a sentence. In order to navigate to a sentence, you will now need to click on the # icon (for the main sentence), or the arrow icon (for the translations).
All the icons have been changed in order to use images in SVG. We're trying to slowly transition towards this format for all our icons.
The "adopt" button has been moved to be placed next to the name of the owner of the sentence.
There is still something left to do: at the moment if you are the owner of a sentence, clicking on it will display the form to edit it. We want to replace this mechanism and add an edit button on which you would click to edit the sentence.
# Sentences deduplication
This wasn't easy work but the sentences deduplication script is finally ready to run on the real website.
You can thank saeb (aka. lool0 on IRC). He's the one who wrote most of the script.
Before we can run the script, there is one last thing to do: fix the time on the server. We will need to shut down Tatoeba for a few minutes. But we will do this when there is less traffic.
In any case you can expect the script to be running on Monday :)
# Google Summer of Code 2015
We are preparing[1] to apply for Google Summer of Code 2015[2]. We participated last year (for the first time) and had 4 students[3] working on projects related to Tatoeba. We hope to get to participate again this year.
We are in the phase of defining ideas of projects for students. If you have an idea, please don't hesitate to submit it to us[4]. You can submit ideas also by replying to my message on the Wall[5].
On a side note, if you are interested in being a mentor (this requires to have programming knowledge), please let us know in the related thread[6] on the Tatoeba Google group, or contact us at team@tatoeba.org.

There is a problem with the display of the punctuation at the right-to-left languages, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Persian etc. The period, which should appear on the left of the sentence, appears on the right. This only happens with sentences down the thread. When you click on the sentence to have it on top, the period appears where it should normally be - on the left.
Can you fix this display problem? I used to go over Arabic or Hebrew sentences and correct the period location. Now all the periods appear on the wrong direction of the sentence, so I cannot check this feature anymore (unless I intend to click on each sentence and check it individually).
Could you perhaps show on the dev site how it would look if the arrows were placed on the right of the scissors and the chains?
Done.
I did try to swap it when I was doing the redesign on my local version, because I was considering it, but I was afraid that people who are used to linking would click too often by mistake on the arrow instead of the link/unlink icon. So I left it at the same position for now.
Thank you. I personally like it better.
Since the mouse cursor is more likely to be on the right of the arrow before I click it, with the current positioning, I often have to cross a chain or a scissor to reach the arrow, and I fear I might link or unlink sentences by mistake. It might be a matter of practice, though.
What do other corpus maintainers and advanced contributors think about it?

Is there any good reason for the flags going diagonally? Maybe I'm the only one, but I find that they are far too distracting from the sentences now, and give the display a somewhat disordered appearance. I'd like it better if they were arranged vertically again.
It shouldn't be displayed diagonally. Can you take a screenshot, and also tell me what browser you are using?
This is what it looks like for me now: http://prntscr.com/5u6xgx. I tried to clear the cache, but to no avail. I'm using Firefox.
I'm so glad to hear this was unintended. It is literally giving a head-ache.
I see that you have some extra "cart" icons. I also remember that you disabled the romanization with Stylish. I think the wrong alignment is due to one of these. Try to disable them and see what happens.
It was the additional cart icons. Thanks for the quick help.
Do you think you'll be able to allow additional icons again without distorting the display? I've been using Jakov's user script all the time to link sentences, and I've come to like it a lot. Perhaps something similar could even be incorporated into programming of the website itself.
I can guarantee.
Your best chance is to contact Jakov to ask him to fix the positioning of the icon in his script.
I still have to change a few things regarding the HTML and CSS of the sentences though. The display will remain the same, just that the code behind it will be different. Perhaps these changes will somehow fix the alignment when you have your user script activated.
Is deduplication already done? I found one pair that hasn't been merged: http://tatoeba.org/fin/sentences/show/3215751 and http://tatoeba.org/fin/sentences/show/3229229.
No, it’s not completed yet. This pair should be merged at some point.
