I find I am practically unable to use Tatoeba any more. Recent changes to the interface ar causing a lot of problems. In particular:

(a) when I try and use any of my links to Tatoeba functions it asks me to to log in. The "Remember me" option simply doesn't work. Once I log in I go to some sort of front page with no way of navigating to the sentence I want.

(b) in the WWWJDIC system I have links to sentences and also to the functions for amending the sentence indices. I can no longer get to these, so I can no longer work on keeping them up-to-date (I just get sent to "login", over and over again") How can I get to a link like "http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentence...ns/show/21660" which worked properly for years?

(c) in the past I could find sentences by searching for them using part of the text they contained. This has vanished. Why? It was extremely useful! As an example I want to get to this sentence: "サンプルは世界200の医療機関から収集された。" How can I do it?

Hoping for some assistance.

Jim

Hmm. Just after posting that I find it's started remembering that I've logged in. I wonder why it took a couple of hours to start doing that?

There has been no change made on the "sentence annotations" section. Everything should be working the same as before.

(a) Some people have reported issues with the "Remember me". We haven't identified what's the cause. It doesn't seem to happen systematically. I personally never had the problem so far. If you get logged out despite checking the "Remember me" option, you would have to just try again.

(b) If you cannot get to some sentences anymore, this may be because they have been deleted. The example you mentioned (#21660) is a sentence that has been deleted, as you can see in the logs.

(c) There is still a search box in the sidebar. From what I've tried, it is still possible to search. You probably cannot find "サンプルは世界200の医療機関から収集された。" either because it has been modified, or because it has been deleted.

Thanks, Trang. Now that I'm being "remembered" it's a lot better, and I can get the annotations pages again. I guess it's a cookie setting issue. I can see I (now) have a "CakeCookie[user]" set from Tatoeba. which will expire in 6 days. Fingers crossed that I can get it set again. Yesterday it took about 10 tries over several hours. Is there any way login cookies can be set to a longer period?

Re: "There is still a search box in the sidebar" - I can't see any sidebar. To you mean the search box at the top of the page? I can't use that at present as it's disabled (?). The sentence I quoted (サンプルは世界...) is still there - it's #216604. I just can't seem to locate it using a search function. I have to bring up another sentence, e.g. select a random sentence, and then put the number into the "Show sentence #:" box.

Maybe it's because this sentence (#216604) is an orphan.

Should that ever render a sentence unsearchable? All the ~160,000 Japanese/English sentence pairs from the Tanaka corpus that were rolled into Tatoeba at the beginning were orphans to start with, and I guess many still are.

I thought you were referring to this search: http://prntscr.com/cmtzk7

For the general search feature, I disabled since yesterday it because the website has been very slow in the past weeks, to the point where it's almost unusable.

Cf. https://tatoeba.org/eng/wall/sh...#message_27277
and https://tatoeba.org/eng/wall/sh...#message_27267

I am not sure yet when I can re-enable it. It seems that with the growth of the database, the growth of visits of the website and possible as well because of the recent changes in the search feature, our server can no longer meet the demand.

Thanks. For searching for Japanese sentences I can do that elsewhere via WWWJDIC:
e.g. http://nihongo.monash.edu/cgi-bin/wwwjdic?10 and then access them in Tatoeba using the sentence number.

Sorry to hear about the load issues. They are a pain and once you are dependent on a big relational database there's not much you can do but throw expensive resources at them.
