我(われ)を忘・れる: 物事に心を奪われてぼんやりする。興奮して理性を失う。

In Russian, we have a set expression "не помнить себя от радости" that literally means something like "to be unable to keep oneself in mind because of joy" or "to forget oneself because of joy". As you can see, this is almost word for word translation of Japanese sentence. And the closest English analogs of that Russian expression are "to be beside oneself with joy", "to be transported with joy", "to be overjoyed". The Japanese sentence has similar meaning, I believe, though I'd like to hear an opinion of a native speaker. :-)
