IN the porch ?
who's "we"?
The Kenerman dictionary provides this example : "They waited in the porch until it stopped raining"
Is that a different meaning ?
Since a porch is a projected structure of a doorway and forming a covered entrance, does "in the porch" mean that you're waiting underneath, while "on the porch" means that you're waiting at the door but not necessarily in the covered space ?
I can't see how somebody would be standing "on the porch", since that would mean they stand on top of the doorway...
