@al_ex_an_der I was just "under the influence" of the Tatoeba guideline about not "copying" things directly off the web, and possibly modifying them to avoid copyright problems. I'm not terribly aware about what is still under copyright so ...

There a some differences between different countries, but in general you can be quite sure that the copyright ends 70 years after the death of the author.

For Tatoeba, it's French Law who apply (as server are hosted in France but a french association, that both me and Trang, are French etc.) , for which it's 70 Years, so Mark Twain should be safe.
