Just out of curiosity, can this sentence be used interchangeably with "Ég drekk ekki mikinn bjór"? I am linking translations to English and I wanted to be sure that they can both be used to say "I don't drink much beer."

No, not necessarily. The word "svo" implies a comparison or reference point which is missing from the relative "mikinn" when used on its own.
