Thanks!
"give dysentery to": Does that mean Tom has dysentery himself?
(If so, I wonder if there aren't more likely ways of transmission than pots and pans.)
It's common and there are numerous vectors.

My summer camp counselors thought it was from too much soap. It was likely to have been caused by contaminated food or water.
I sort of have doubts about the verb "give" in this sentence.
Perhaps something like the following would be better.
... because Tom didn't throughly clean the pots, Mary got dysentery
Yes, that's what I wanted to ask
I've seen "give" with chlamydia etc. where it is used in the sense that a person gives "their" chlamydia" to someone else. i.e. that the person is the source of infection.
With dysenteria, a person can be source, vector or just someone who failed to interrupt the chain of transmission, like a dishwasher.
It doesn't look like he/she is willing to make the change, so I added the following that you can translate.
[#7870174] Because Tom didn't throughly clean the pots, Mary got dysentery. (CK)
