Je pense qu'un facteur très important pour les faire rester est de montrer que Tatoeba est vraiment une communauté internationale.
Il faut qu'ils voient du portugais partout, sur le mur, dans les commentaires, etc.

the link provided by CK is not official, that is his private website. It is unclear why CK systematically lures people who ask information about Tatoeba to his private website, rather than to Tatoeba, where all the information is available, though. Maybe he gets paid for clicks or some other obscure reason...

Actually I will integrate soon on Tatoeba a (slightly) modified version of what he has written, for the moment I didn't find time to hosted it /adapt the html etc. so I told to CK that I have no problem to have him host this pages on his website, but I do understand it may seem strange.
Once it will be on tatoeba (with my modification), I will ask people their opinion, if we need to add/remove/modify part of it.
But what information is missing on Tatoeba's website? I got all the information I needed to use Tatoeba on tatoeba.org and its blog blog.tatoeba.org. Why should people need another English-only and censored website that seems to "re-encapsulate" the service?
This must be utterly confusing to newcomers, really...
Je voudrais pouvoir mettre des phrases supprimées dans des listes, pour garder la mémoire de fautes qui ont été ensuite supprimées.
Puisque les phrases supprimées peuvent toujours être consultées par leur numéro, il devrait également être possible de les ajouter aux listes.

When you insert a sentence, you cannot choose "unknown language" but you can change it afterwards to "unknown language" by clicking on the flag next to the sentence.

But you should urge your compatriots to indicate their country on their profile, otherwise I cannot account for their contributions in these countries. For instance, I know for sure that my map of Esperanto contributions completely underestimates Brazil's contribution.

A fraction of contributors indicate their country, and more suppose that we can deduct their mother tongue from their country, which is not the case...So it turns out to be very difficult to get the numbers right.
However, the great diversity of contributors (from 55 accounted countries so far !) and languages brings very much credibility to this project that we love!

By the way, I think it should be obligatory to indicate your country. Tatoeba is all about languages, and it would be good to know where these sentences come from...

I totally agree. And I think we should ask ourselves what we can do to get contributors in countries that are still not or underrepresented. What's about AFRICA, for instance? Let's become really really global!

Try using Google Chromium to perform this download. 'Works fine on my 6+ years old laptop.
Yeah, Google is Google compatible...but other browsers work as well with Google Docs, according to my experience...
Exporting as an image is not so interesting, since these maps are dynamic and interactive ( you can mouse over a graphical component to get details). I update this data regularly, as soon as contributors update their profiles and inform me...
BTW, for some reason in the exported data there is a mismatch between Esperanto and French names: Aŭstralio = Uruguay, ..., Filipinoj = Australie.
Sorry, corrected. Alas, Google Docs doesn't yet support Esperanto for maps and for translations, so whenever I update the data, I have to manually retranslate into French, so there may be small discrepancies in between...
CK was so kind to export the data. It's not internactive but very interesting nevertheless.

b) http://commondatastorage.google...ots/index.html has only the header and no actual links.
(Downloading Chrome instead of Chromium is not an option: AFAIK it has no way to turn auto-update off.)
BTW my current computer is likely to be worse than your 6-year old laptop. It has 128 Mb RAM. :)
