"走り去った" sounds a little odd. It puts too much emphasis on the action of running. A more appropriate 和語 would be "逃げ去った". You could also use a 漢語 and say "逃亡した".
There's no reason to write "見る" in hiragana. It should be written in kanji. The phrase "~や否や" sounds a bit elevated, so it might be better to use a 漢語 with it.
So here's one of my suggestions: http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/2261629
You could also say without "~や否や". This time I'll use "警察官" without abbreviation ("警察官", "警察" and "警官" are all quite natural) and use the verb "逃げ去る", thus: http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/2261630
