Do you mean 区別される or maybe 区別する?

mookeee mookeee September 22, 2011 September 22, 2011 at 6:55:48 PM UTC link Permalink

It is an alternative form of 区別される. I know it's really unusual. Almost all uses of 区別さる is 区別さるべき, but I think 区別さる。is possible because I see 誘拐さる。観察さる。.

The reason I chose such an unusual expression is to adapt the sentence to 575. Maybe it's not good as an example...

@tag

Could someone please tag this sentence as "non-standard grammar"?

bunbuku bunbuku September 23, 2011 September 23, 2011 at 1:44:00 AM UTC link Permalink

@mookeee
I see. I didn't get it because I think conjugation of 区別する is サ行変格活用 in modern days. Actually, I've never heard 誘拐さる and 観察さる before. However, I searched for these words on the Internet, and I found that they certainly exist even though I feel awkward for them.

何だか自発的な表現のような気がするが・・・その「non-standard grammar」のタグはちょっと気になるんですが、古文の活用形である可能性がないのでしょうか。

@saeb
文語での標準的な形は「せらる」ですね。一般的な文法からは逸脱した形なのは確かだと思います。

先程このページを見つけました。

明治時代に文部省により認められた形のようです。それを non-standard grammar と言ってしまうのはまずいかもしれませんね。いいタグ名が思いつかないのですが、何かいい案はありませんか?

@CK
Good ideas.
Could you modify it to "old-fashioned"?

saeb saeb September 23, 2011 September 23, 2011 at 12:32:35 PM UTC link Permalink

I went ahead and added one of the tags CK suggested.

@mookee
thank you for the explanation and the link
とっても参考になります。
