I translated this sentence from Catalan. The background is a TV program about a Romanian girl that settled in Catalonia and could easily learn Spanish and Catalan because they are related to Romanian. A woman in the program said this sentence in Catalan and it was easily recognized by the girl. It sounds pretty much the same in the two languages. So the strange meaning could come from the fact that the words for this phrase were gathered according to inter-linguistic similarity, rather than semantics.
