Shouldn't it be "Momma", or is "Mama" also a Japanese name?
(I've never seen the endearing form of "Mother" spelled "Mama" in English)

or "and his mama cries": in Elvis Presley, "in the ghetto"

Thank you both. I checked the Oxford English dictionary and it says that mama or mamma is dated or N. American.
(In our multicultural society we also call our grandmothers Oma, Mémé, or Nonna depending on our ethnic background. Very convenient if have one Oma and one Mémé; it helps to tell them apart, but I wouldn't consider that standard English. That's why I had my doubts. Here in Canada I don't recall ever seeing "mama".)
