ist das ein deutsches Sprichwort?
Es ist kein besonders bekanntes Sprichwort. Ich habe es in dem "Handbuch für Volksschullehrer", 1. Band, S. 116 von Joh. Ferd. Schlez (1830) gefunden. Aber man könnte sicher etwas Hübscheres reimen. :-)
one word is missing from the English sentence: wise...
Yes, you are right, of course. If this quotation happens to be a translation of the English proverb, to which it is really close, then the word 'wise' was probably left out, because there would have been too many syllables otherwise. There are nine and nine in the English version of the saying and seven and seven in the German one (that is if I did not miscount). I—or someone else—could, of course, add a translation which has all the words (but lacks the rhyme), if you would like to see one in the list.
But I don't see the rhyme in German...so if it is neither a proverb nor a rhyme, I think it should be accurate...
The rhyme is auf—Kauf:
Früh zu Bett, früh wieder auf
macht gesund und reich in Kauf.
