I didn't think it was all that wrong. Change 'it' to 'this cellar' and it's perfect.

You’d have to change the Japanese sentence, because it was translated from the English one and not the other way round.

I thought it was taken from a bilingual reader or something. One of the original Tanaka corpus sentences, origins murky. It was just missing context to tell that 'It' didn't refer to the weather.
