Can be 持って行く used like this? When I read this sentence, I imagine Kelly walking somewhere, where his pipe lies, holding a burning match in his hands. Which is probably not what it means as having a pipe prepared in his mouth, just putting the burning match inside without going anywhere would make more sense.
