Is it better to cancel out the ‘only’?

I think that it's okay, either with or without "only".
When I think about it, the word "only" conveys to me
the meaning: "That was the only way that I found out."
And it suggests: "If it hadn't been for the accidental event,
then I would never have found out."

Thanks for the explanation :)
