Some translations include "by car": "mit dem Auto" #408428 "en coche" #330037 "aŭte" #531375 (and maybe more?). Can someone unlink these and link them to a new sentence "I'd better drive you home by car"?
I think 'drive' already implies 'by car'.
What if I'm there with my truck or bus or snow mobile? Or in other countries you always go by scooter or motorbike and nobody you know even has a car.
Plus now the emphasis on "by car" in some translations make the sentences unnatural. Like implying you normally would go by motorbike/whatever, but now it has to be the car instead.
I'd say things like this confuse learners or what ever uses Tatoeba.
Let's wait a little while and get some other opinions. If some translations are unnatural, they should be corrected. But the first thing that comes to my mind when somebody says "I'd better drive you home" is that he will drive me by car. The problem is that we have no context.
Sure, but if you take my native language german for example "Ich fahre dich besser nach Hause." would also imply that he will drive me by car. So saying "Ich fahre dich besser mit dem Auto bis nach Hause." would actually be really awkward. Like saying "I'd better drive you home by car." They are just two different meanings.
Imagine somebody who clearly does not own a car and everybody knows it. If he says "I'd better drive you home." nobody would think of a car and it makes no sense to assume it's the same meaning as "I'd better drive you home by car."
