
It doesn't match the Japanese sentence. Please, correct me if I'm wrong but ことなしに生きていく is positive, which actually means "to live (or get along) without". Otherwise, it should be "ことなしに生きていけない" (can't live without).
I know that the sentence would sound "wrong" by itself, but I think it's been taken out of context. The fact that こと is being used makes me suspect this is the case.
