起こして = wake me up

katleen katleen July 23, 2014 July 23, 2014 at 3:02:37 PM UTC link Permalink

but... 起こして ...mean ''wake up''... is it the くださいthat make you think that somebody is asking to somebody else to wake them up?

''wake me up''... wouldn't it be : 私を起 こして ?

Silja Silja July 23, 2014 July 23, 2014 at 3:10:02 PM UTC link Permalink

起こす (in te-form 起こして) means "to wake someone (up)" and it's transitive (requires an object). 起きる (in te-form 起きて) means "to get up, to wake up" and it's intransitive (can't be used with object).

no, 起こす is the transitive form of 起きる and essentially makes it causative in nature.

> 私を起こして

This is pretty much what this sentence implies. 私 is implicit. Japanese likes to omit pronouns, especially when it can be inferred from the context.
