Google says Urdu...

sysko sysko July 17, 2010 July 17, 2010 at 6:52:26 PM UTC link Permalink

it's Trang who is in charge of managing flags :)

blay_paul blay_paul July 17, 2010 July 17, 2010 at 7:05:34 PM UTC link Permalink

Oops.

@Trang - any chance of an Urdu flag?

TRANG TRANG July 17, 2010 July 17, 2010 at 7:52:08 PM UTC link Permalink

Actually Pharamp is in charge of making the icons ^^. I'll tell her we'll need Urdu, as well as Sanskrit and Quechua.
Not sure yet what to do with Tengwar. It's probably going to remain under the "unknown" category for a while.

But since there is only one sentence in each of these language, and not a lot of people to contribute, it's not very urgent to have a flag.

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 3:41:17 PM UTC link Permalink

Any ideas for the Sanskrit flag?

blay_paul blay_paul July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 3:50:44 PM UTC link Permalink

How about whatever Sanskrit letter matches the start of 'tatoeba' ?

Demetrius Demetrius July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 3:58:19 PM UTC link Permalink

> How about whatever Sanskrit letter
> matches the start of 'tatoeba' ?
Sanskrit hasn't got a single alphabet. Now Devanagari is a de facto standard, but in fact it can be written with any of a large number of Indic scripts. And Devanagari is also used to write Hindi.

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 4:20:08 PM UTC link Permalink

I think Sanskrit + orange (color of buddhism) background would be too long and not fit 29px...
Demetrius, is there any syllable which is the most important or such? Which is the first one for exemple?

Archibald Archibald July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 4:44:51 PM UTC link Permalink

What about this one, for Sanskrit?
http://possinium.free.fr/san.png
The first letter is from Devanāgarī and the second one is from Kannada, another alphabet used to write Sanskrit.

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 4:58:22 PM UTC link Permalink

You did it? I think it's very good, just put a color background, show us and then send it to Trang at team@tatoeba.fr ;)

Archibald Archibald July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 5:11:57 PM UTC link Permalink

@Pharamp: yes, I did it. Which color?

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 5:17:45 PM UTC link Permalink

I proposed orange as it's the color of the monks tunic, but any of these are good in my opinion.

Just consider that blue has been already used (Teochew, Yiddish) and yellow too (Shanghainese).

Archibald Archibald July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 5:30:45 PM UTC link Permalink

I used this color http://fr-fr.colourlovers.com/color/E35604/
(Buddha's teachings). Is it ok?

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 6:08:47 PM UTC link Permalink

Of course. I will adjust it (they need light set to 70) and send it to Trang with the other flags! Thank you ^____^

Archibald Archibald July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 6:13:48 PM UTC link Permalink

I don't understand what you mean by "they need light set to 70" ; anyway, I let you do it.

Pharamp Pharamp July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 9:02:11 PM UTC link Permalink

The brightness (?) should be changed +70... x) I'm not able to explain it better in English >.<

Archibald Archibald July 21, 2010 July 21, 2010 at 9:14:36 PM UTC link Permalink

Will you do it?

Pharamp Pharamp July 22, 2010 July 22, 2010 at 12:30:10 PM UTC link Permalink

Yes, I've already done everything :)

Archibald Archibald July 22, 2010 July 22, 2010 at 12:44:25 PM UTC link Permalink

Are there already sentences in Sanskrit?

Pharamp Pharamp July 22, 2010 July 22, 2010 at 9:06:27 PM UTC link Permalink

Yep, just one http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/385820
