Yes. It is no longer needed.
I don't know if we should. It doesn't do any harm, and sometimes flags (languages) are changed arbitrarily, usually as a glitch. If the tag is removed and the flag happens to be changed, it will be hard to know that there is any mistake (especially in the case of a lesser known language), or much less, what language the sentence is in.
This has happened where, for example, some Khasi sentences were labeled as Coastal Kadazan when that language was added. If I hadn't been working with both contributors, nobody would have noticed this mistake, especially if the tags had been deleted.
