(I'm using "proverbial phrase" for this, if you want an English tag. It seems that's what it's called in English.)
IMHO this should be deleted as it's clearly a dictionary entry.
Then why did you add it? :P
Let's make a sentence out of it. I just can't suggest anything right now, cause I have to leave. :)
I've added it VERY long ago. ^^
How about something like this:
It wasn't nice of you to rub salt into his wound with that misplaced remark of yours.
(If that's correct English, of course. :))
