The question has been raised as to why the German has plural 'gods' while the Japanese (I think)* has singular God.
* I know Japanese doesn't handle plurals in a very precise or organized way, but I think 神は is going to be God not gods.
I think in that case it is worth seeking confirmation from a native speaker of Japanese.
