The single "in" is acceptable?
Yes. Consider the sentence "This river is dangerous to swim." That is valid, even without the 'in', so "This river is dangerous to swim in July." is also valid. At least that's my logic.
Basically, though, it just doesn't sound odd to me. :-P
@blay_paul "This river is dangerous to swim." would only be valid if "I swim this river." were also valid, which it is not. It should be "This river is dangerous to swim in."
The correct version of this sentence should be "This river is dangerous to swim in in July.", but since two "in"s might look awkward, it's better to (a) either have the comma that the linked sentence has, or (b) to move the "in July" to the beginning of the sentence. As it stands right now, I don't think the sentence is 100% correct, though it's passable.
I disagree. And, incidentally, "I swim this river" is valid, although the usual connotation of "swim this river" is to swim from one bank to the other.
