Mi ne certas, ĉu mi komprenas. Ĉu vi celas, ke "tawa" povas esprimi ian komplezon, kiun oni faras por iu? Kiel: "mi awen (tawa kama pi jan pona sina) tawa sina" - "mi atendas (vian amikon) por vi"?

Not really. I think the main (most frequent) meaning of "tawa" is "going to, toward; for".
As in this example: I was waiting for you: mi awen tawa kama sina.

Interesting. In my mind, "tawa" has these meanings/usages:
- movement, indicating the target (mi tawa tomo.)
- transfer, indicating the beneficiary (mi pana e lipu tawa sina.)
- perspective (tawa mi la ni li pona.)

In "I'm waiting for you", "for" seems to have yet another meaning. Do you agree? If yes, what kind of meaning would that be, and can you think of other examples?

I agree. In "I cried for you", for example, the meaning seems to me "I cried because of you" [Eu chorei por você / Chorei por sua causa]. (?)

That's true. And some (over-)use "tan" for "to wait for", too! Probably because, if I'm waiting for someone, I'm sort-of waiting because of that person. But then, how to say "I'm waiting for her because of you"?

Tepan Tepan August 19, 2022 August 19, 2022 at 7:27:29 PM UTC link Permalink
