Why "and"?

I can imagine beginning the sentence with "and" if it were assumed to follow a sentence like "The numbers 2, 4, and 6 are even." However, while I don't read Korean, Google Translate translates the original Korean sentence as "1, 3, 5 are odd numbers", without an initial "And".

Having said that, starting a sentence with a number in numeric form is generally considered something to be avoided. Here are two sites that agree:

I personally would write:

One, three, and five are odd numbers.

I might leave out the "and" before the end of the series because the Korean sentence seems to omit it, but normally I would include it.
