I think the translation is wrong.
The English "kick in" means to "contribute"...
I tried to hit the same register as the English version. I am not sure if you are misunderstanding the German or if I have missed a minor nuance of meaning. When I google for "muss Geld zuschießen", I think what I get is the same kind of hits as when I google for "must kick in money".
